Who doesn’t love leftovers?
Leftovers are a great staple in my refrigerator. And, an even better asset to my freezer. The way I see it they’re the gift that keeps on giving.
LEFTOVERS SAVE YOU TIME
As a business owner, you learn very quickly that time is one of your greatest resources. Especially, when you’re working on a project or that latest “crazy idea” that you can’t stop barking about. With leftovers in the fridge, I can spend less time cooking and more time working on my “crazy idea.” And, even if I’m not working on a project, I have more time in my schedule to do whatever I need to do for myself or my family.
FOOD ALWAYS TASTES BETTER THE NEXT DAY
Anyone ever notice that food always tastes better the next day. It’s had some time to stew in its own sauces or linger in its spices. So, the flavor of those leftovers tastes even better the moment it hits your mouth. Plus, the anticipation of knowing what you’re going to eat makes that moment you get to eat that much more enjoyable.
NEXT DAY FOOD CAN BECOME A NEW PUPCAKE RECIPE
A lot of my pupcake recipes have come from at least one leftover in my fridge. Ironically, they’re the recipes that turn out better than the others. I’m sure you have a few leftovers in your fridge right now that would be an amazing pupcake recipe.
Honestly, I hate wasting food. I guess that comes from when I was a puppy. Anything we bought either got cooked or stored in the freezer for future meals. In the words of Cherie Carter-Scott…
You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you.
So, this week at Pupcake Sugar I decided to celebrate the beauty of leftovers with Scrap This. Scrap This is a baking competition for any pup that wanted to enter. The challenge? Come up with a pupcake recipe using the leftovers in your fridge.
I live for pupcake challenges. I love giving beginning pupcake bakers the chance to channel their baking creativity. As I always say, we have everything we need right in front of us. So, this challenge is more than turning some leftovers in the fridge into to pupcakes. It’s about teaching pups to utilize their resources.
You should see some of the flavors that some of the pups came up with. Looking to get in on the Scrap This action? Here are a few leftovers in my fridge.
- Rice
- Broccoli
- Bananas
Use one, all three, or some fun leftovers of your own. That’s the beauty of these challenges. Let your pupcake creativity run wild. What pupcake flavor can you make from them? Share your pupcake flavors @pupcakesugar. I’d also love to hear from you.
