What’s Dog Mom’s Day & How to Celebrate It

Dog Mom's Day

Dog moms are dope.  Of course, we have a day dedicated to us.  Dog Mom’s Day is always the 2nd Saturday of May.  It was started to celebrate and thank the women in our lives that love dogs.

So, this blog post is dedicated to Dog Mom’s Day and how we celebrate it.  Whether you’re a dog mom or know one you want to celebrate, this blog post is for you.

WHAT IS DOG MOM’S DAY

National Dog Mom’s Day was established in 2018 by Dig, which is a dating app for people who love dogs.  Dog Mom’s Day is always the 2nd Saturday of May.  It was started to celebrate and thank the women in our lives that love dogs.  This includes dog moms, foster dog moms, dog grand moms, and future dog moms who give love to pups every day.  And yes.  This includes those dog-loving aunties who love to love on their fur-phews and fur-nieces too.

WHY WE CELEBRATE DOG MOM’S DAY

Being a dog mom is dope.  We celebrate Dog Mom’s Day to acknowledges how much we care and love our dogs.  Dog mommy-hood has health benefits.  Caring for a dog can improve work performance, enrich personal relationships, and foster community engagement.  So, we also celebrate to acknowledge how caring for a dog can have a ripple down effect both professionally and personally.

Enhanced Work-Life Balance – Being a dog mom encourages a structured daily routine, promoting a healthier work-life balance for dog moms. This structure can lead to increased productivity and satisfaction in professional endeavors, as regular breaks for walks and playtime can reduce work-related stress and improve overall mental clarity.

Strengthened Community Connections – Dog moms often find themselves part of a wider community of dog lovers, whether through local parks, events, or social media groups dedicated to pet care. These connections not only foster a sense of belonging and support but also open avenues for networking and community involvement that can enrich personal and professional lives.

Promotion of Physical Health & Activity – The physical activities involved in dog care, like walking and playing, ensure that dog moms maintain an active lifestyle. This not only benefits physical health, reducing the risk of heart disease and promoting fitness, but also enhances mental health by releasing endorphins. An active lifestyle can lead to improved energy levels and a more positive outlook, impacting every aspect of life from personal to professional.

WAYS TO CELEBRATE DOG MOM’S DAY

There are several ways to celebrate Dog Mom’s Day.  Whether you choose to spend it with your dog or do something by yourself, the day is for you choose.  Here are five ways to celebrate with our dog or not.  These activities work either way.

Participate in A Dog Mom Meetup – An in-person or virtual dog mom meet up is a great way for dog moms to connect, share stories, and discuss the joys and challenges of being a dog mom.

Have a Spa Day – A spa day is a great way to relax, rejuvenate, and focus on dog mom wellness. Whether it’s a spa that welcomes pets or one that’s just for dog moms, this is an opportunity to recharge and celebrate the personal growth and health benefits facilitated by their role as a dog mom.

Create A Dog Mommy & Me Memory Book – Creating a memory book for you and your dog can be a great mindfulness activity.  The memory book can include photos, milestones, and memorable stories that celebrate the unique relationship you share with your dog.

Give Back to Your Favorite Animal Organization – Celebrating Dog Mom’s Day by giving back to the community, such as volunteering or donating to your favorite animal organization can be incredibly rewarding. It’s a way to extend the love and care you have for your dog to those in need.

Take a Specialty Cooking or Baking Class – Participate in a cooking or baking class.  If you’re spending the day without their dog, a gourmet cooking or baking class can offer an enjoyable self-care experience and explore new culinary skills. This celebration of personal interests outside the dog mom role adds an enriching layer to their identity.
