Here’s A New Way To Look At Your Embarrassing Mistake

Mistakes. We all have that embarrassing one that makes us cringe to talk about it.

I’ve made several of them in my life. There was the time I chewed through the television cable cord. The time I decided to dive feet first into the wet grass, and got mud all over my fur. And, I can’t forget about the time I barked all night long keeping my Mom and all of my neighbors up.

However, there’s one mistake that sticks out more than all the others.

One of my first toys was this soft yellow ball made to look like a bumblebee. It had yarn strings all over it to make it easier for me to pick up and carry around. I loved this toy. I played with it everyday for months. This toy was definitely my go-to for a while.

Over time, however, my favorite toy got old. I pulled the stuffing out completely and all that was left was a flat round circle with this bumblebee face staring at me.

Although the toy was completely flat, I still had those strings to play with and keep me entertained. I pulled and pulled on those strings so hard that they began to stretch longer and longer. Those yarn strings got so long that they started to tangle.

Mom actually tried to get rid of that toy a few times, however I insisted that she let me keep it.

One day, I was rolling around on the floor playing with the toy while Mom sat at the table eating dinner. Instead of obsessing over her meal knowing she wasn’t going to share, I spent that time playing with my toy to keep me occupied.

The yarn strings on the toy were so long by now that they looked like one big knot. After a few minutes of playing, I completely tangled myself up in these yarn strings. I wiggled to the left and stretched to the right. No matter what I did, I still couldn’t get out.

I also tried with all my might to stand up, but I couldn’t. I was trapped lying on my back wrapped up in nothing, but yarn string. So, I did the only thing I could do. I yelled for Mom to come help me.

The whole time I thought to myself, this was the dumbest mistake you could have made in your life. Why didn’t you let Mom get rid of this toy when she wanted to. However, as Tina Fey stated…

“There are no mistakes, only opportunities.” Click To Tweet

And you know what? She’s right. Sometimes we waste our time blaming ourselves over the mistakes we’ve made. However, every mistake brings a lesson. Whether it’s a lesson about ourselves, someone else, or even a situation, those mistakes demonstrate that we are growing as pups (and humans).

Mistakes are also the opportunity for us to make more informed decisions about how we want to live our lives. They point us into the direction of our purpose. Mistakes also bring about change and the opportunity to experience something new.

For me, the mistake of getting tangled in my toy led to 2 things:

  1. A LIFE LESSON – Stop holding on to things that you’ve outgrown. They do nothing but hold you back from something greater.
  2. AN OPPORTUNITY – I got a newer, better quality toy that I have had for year. I’ve never gotten tangled in it and I still play with it to this day.

These Sweet Potato Blueberry Pupcake Squares are dedicated to the mistakes we make that have led us to new opportunities.

And of course, we believe that every pupcake has a love story. So, while your favorite pup is PUPPY LOVIN’ on these pupcakes, we’d love to hear from you.

What have you learned from a mistake you’ve made? Or, what new opportunity has come your way due to a mistake you’ve made?

Ingredients

Sweet Potato Blueberry Pupcake Squares

  • ½ Cup Brown Rice Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • ¼ Cup Whipped Sweet Potatoes
  • ⅓ Cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Pure Honey
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ Cup Blueberries

Instructions

Yields: 4 Sweet Potato Blueberry Pupcake Squares (16 Small Pupcake Squares)

 For Whipped Sweet Potatoes

  1. Fill a 1½ quart pot with water, and bring to a rolling boil. Once boiled, add unpeeled sweet potato. Cook sweet potato for approximately 20 – 25 minutes until tender. Remove from heat, and peel skin off sweet potato while it’s still warm.
  2. Place sweet potato in a large mixing bowl and whip on medium speed until creamy.
  3. Measure ¼ cup of whipped sweet potato. Set aside. Freeze remaining whipped sweet potatoes to be used for later.

For Sweet Potato Blueberry Pupcake Squares

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. In small bowl mix together flour and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl add olive oil, whipped sweet potatoes, yogurt, honey, and egg. Beat on medium speed until combined.
  4. Add dry ingredients into the mixture and blend until mixed.
  5. Stir in blueberries.
  6. Fill each brownie pan with pupcake mixture. I used a 2.5-inch by 1.5-inch Wilton 12-Cavity Brownie Bar Pan. Bake for 20 – 22 minutes. Pupcakes are done when you can stick a toothpick into the cake and it comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
  7. Cut each brownie square into 4 smaller pieces.
