How To Reduce The Clean-up Time After Baking

Clean-up after pupcakes

I love baking pupcakes.   But, cleaning up afterwards is a different story.

With all the baking pans, mixing bowls, and leftover ingredients, cleaning up after baking can be such a process.  Especially, if you’re trying out a new recipe and have no clue what you’re doing.  So, here are a few tips for all the pupcake bakers reduce the clean-up time after baking.

CLEAN AS YOU GO

As you’re baking pupcakes, clean the dishes and put the ingredients away as you go.  Instead of keeping all the ingredients on the counter, put them away after you’re done using them.  Wash that mixing bowl while those pupcakes are baking in the oven.  This way you’ll have less to clean up after the pupcakes are done.

PREP INGREDIENTS FIRST

Measure out all your ingredients before you start throwing everything into a bowl to mix.  This way you can put the excess ingredients away.  Not only will you have everything you need right in front of you, but there’s also less clean up at the end.  Plus, you’ll have more space on the counter to actually bake.

MEASURE WITH INTENTION

One of the messiest parts about baking pupcakes is measuring ingredients and spraying your pan.  So, cover your counter with wax paper or a paper towel as you measure.  This way any spills will land on the paper instead of the counter.   Once you’re done, you can throw the paper away with minimal clean up.  If you’re spraying your pan, do it over the sink.  This way you can avoid your spray from landing all over your counter.

I wish I’d put this into practice, the first time I hosted a pupcake tasting at my house.  Don’t get me wrong.  The pupcake tasting was amazing.  I spent a lot of time thinking of recipes to bake and was pleased with how they turned out

Until, I had to clean up.

There were remnants of flour everywhere.  Egg yolk next to the mixing bowl.   And, I couldn’t believe how peanut butter was smeared on the counter.

Even worse.  My pupcakes didn’t come out right the first time. So, there was a lot more mess that I needed to clean up.  I spent 3 hours cleaning up the kitchen.  In the words of Megan Francis…

Cleaning and organizing is a practice, not a project.

I swore after that moment, I’d never do that to myself again.  Who wants to spend that much time cleaning up?   Especially, when you need to get ready for an event your about to host.  Good thing my kitchen has a door because I could put off the major clean-up, so I could get ready for everyone to arrive.

My pupcake tasting was barking amazing.  All the pups loved the pupcakes.  However, I dreaded the clean-up that waited for me after my pupcake tasting was over.

This definitely taught me that time management and organization is key.  It also taught me that it’s probably not a good idea to make a new pupcake flavor the day of an event.  Because if it doesn’t turn out, you spend the whole time scrambling.  But, if I was cleaning along the way, the clean-up time might not have been as bad.

The pupcake baking clean-up is all about organization and time management.  As with any “crazy idea,” there’s always a lot to handle.  Especially, if you’re trying something new.  So, let’s dish.

How do you stay organized when you’re working on a project?  Or, what is your favorite clean-up tactic for pupcake baking?
