Monday comes whether we’re ready for it or not.
When I was working at BarkScent Magazine, I used to dread Monday Mornings. My weekends just never seemed long enough. Since Pupcake Sugar was still in the beginning phases, I was still working at BarkScent Magazine. So, between work, starting my own business, and spending quality time with my human there just didn’t’ seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done.
And, let’s not forget about my pup social life. It was kind of nonexistent for a while. So, when Monday was on the horizon, I would immediately start to cringe at the thought of starting the week all over again.
On Sunday nights, I even remember getting that sinking feeling in my stomach as I prepared for the next day. So, instead of snuggling with my human on the couch while she watched her Sunday night reality show lineup, I’d sneak off to my bed to just be alone with my thoughts. I just needed a moment alone. As the saying goes…
Silence isn’t empty, it’s full of answers.
As I got further along in my career, my Monday blues got worse. And somehow, they’d start trickling into Tuesday and Wednesday. Trying to balance Pupcake Sugar, my job at BarkScent Magazine, loving on my human and enjoying my life was becoming too much. So, I knew it was time to make a change. I decided to take a little bit of that “silence” and find the answer to solve these Monday Blues once and for all.
I realized that the best place to start was with my weekend. I knew that if I could cure those blues that start to set in on Sunday, better known as the SMONDAYS, then things would get better. And, these five gems helped to wash away those Monday Blues once and for all.
DETERMINE WHERE THEY COME FROM
Monday blues usually stem from a greater problem. So, begin to ask yourself why you feel this way. For me, I figured out that I didn’t like my job. However, I knew that at the time I needed it to fund my “crazy idea.” It takes nudges to invest in yourself. So, I worked to put purpose to the job that I hated. I also gave myself a timeframe to leave. It made it a little easier to handle not wanting to be there. It also helped me see that there was some light at the end of the tunnel.
RELAX
I know. I know. As a pup business owner with a job, human to take care of and a million and one pup-dulting responsibilities, relaxing is not the first thing on my schedule. However, you can’t be your best pup self without a little relaxing and recharging. So, dedicate a few hours each weekend for some time to relax. Sunday is my dedicated day. I’m all about a #PupSelfCareSunday solution. No work. No conference barks. No opening any woof-mails. If it doesn’t give me Pup Self-Care Sunday Vibes, I’m not doing it. I don’t do any work whatsoever. I’m on my pup grind all week. A day to refresh, won’t hurt my pupcake hustle. In fact, it only makes it better.
TRY A LITTLE BRUNCH
Speaking of Pup Self-Care Sunday, brunch is always a great go to Sunday mood. Where else can you eat your favorite food, indulge in your favorite Banana & Peanut Butter Pupcakes, laugh with your BFFs and channel your inner pup fashionista. If brunch isn’t your thing, find an activity that brings you joy. Since you’re taking the day (or hour if the day is too big of an ask) for yourself, do something that makes your pup heart smile.
GET PHYSICAL
Try to incorporate some physical activity in your weekend. Whether it’s sneaking out while your human’s not home to go dancing with your boo or playing ball with your human at the park. Trying that new pup gym with your BFF or stretching in your living room even works. Physical activity helps the blood flow, releases endorphins and will help you get a better night’s sleep.
GET IN THE BED EARLY
Sunday is the one night a week where I can actually get in the bed early or at least on time, since I’m not staying up to work on my pupcake hustle. So, I use it to my advantage. Getting up rested on Monday morning makes it easier to start the day and have a productive week.
Navigating those Monday blues are all a part of pup-dulting. I wished they would’ve taught me this in pup college. But, clearly, they though teaching the Pup-thagorean Theorem was more important. So, I’d love to hear from you.
How do you manage the Monday blues?
