Spring fever is definitely in the air already.
Ok. I realize we’re still officially in winter, but still. We pups are definitely ready for the warm season. I see it every day at my gym, Bark Life. Pups come in more stylish workout attire and have even started to sniff each other a little more now.
So, it wasn’t a surprise when I heard all of the lady pups in the gym strategizing on how they were going to approach the cute new guy pup. At least, I think he’s new. To be honest, I’m not quite sure myself. I didn’t even notice him until I heard my friends barking about him.
I spent the past few months in what I like to call Winter Pup Mode.
I guess some pups may refer to it as winter hibernation. I’d spend my days at work for BarkScent Magazine while my humans were gone for the day at their job. I’d spend my evenings relaxing and snuggling with my humans. And while my humans were asleep, I’d spend a few hours at night crafting my pup business plan.
Needless to say, my schedule was full. I’d try my hardest to make it to Bark Life once a week. And since my schedule was so packed, I’d get in for my workout and leave as fast as I could. So, if there was a cute guy pup trotting along on the dog treadmill, I never noticed.
However, now that my pup business plan is almost complete, I have a little more time to socialize. Plus, with the days getting longer and warmer weather on the horizon, who wouldn’t want to soak up the sunlight a little longer?
And, now that spring fever has hit, I’m definitely leaving a little room to mix and mingle, catch up with friends and enjoy some of those fun activities that I missed out on during the winter months.
So, one day at the gym I decided to linger a little longer. Instead of dashing out after my doga class, I decided to do a little cool down on the dog treadmill. Imagine the butterflies I got when the “new guy pup” that all the lady pups have been fawning over hopped on the dog treadmill right next to me.
Now, I’m usually not the type of pup to approach a guy. And, I’m hardly the first pup to strike up a bark-versation. But, I thought “why not?” Spring fever is in the air. This is just as good a time as ever to go with the flow and be a little spontaneous. Plus, this guy pup was cute.
So, I decided to do a little flirting the best way I knew how. I slowed down on my dog treadmill, batted my eyes, slightly leaned over to him and said “I like your shirt.” As Isaac Mizrahi stated….
Flirting is conversational chemistry.
And, boy did we have chemistry. My tactic worked. Twenty minutes later we found ourselves standing in the middle of the floor laughing and swapping numbers. He even asked me out. Of course, I said yes.
In was then, I realized that sometimes you have to bring yourself out of the bubble. Be a little spontaneous. Leave caution to the wind and just go for it.
Chemistry happens when we let go of the all of the “what if’s” and let our self-assuredness shine through. We forget all of the things that we “don’t usually do” and give ourselves permission to go with the flow.
So, strike up that bark-versation. Give in to that spring fever. Because, who knows? You might actually get a date out of it. I did.
