One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a pup business owner…
Trust your gut. It always knows the right answer.
You’d be surprised how many pups ignore that simple philosophy. I can’t say that I blame them. It’s so easy to get distracted with everything we deal with daily. However, every time I’ve listened to my gut, it’s always led me in the right direction.
My gut has not only led me down the path to pupcakes, like these Strawberry Parfait Pupcakes, but it’s also led me to my next creative venture.
Everyone knows that I live for a #PupSelfCareSunday. It’s become an absolute non-negotiable from the moment I started my journey. Somehow, I even became the go-to pup for my BFFs on how to create their own #PupSelfCareSunday routines. So, it wasn’t long before I was sharing my tips and tricks on Pup-stagram.
However, it wasn’t until I was packing pupcake boxes to sell at the Pup Creative Market that I got a sudden boost of creative energy. “What if…” I thought. By the way, you know all “crazy ideas” start with a “What if?”
Anyway, “What if I created my own Pupcake Sugar #PupSelfCareSunday Kits?” I could combine two of my favorite things. Pupcakes. And, spa days.
But as I presented my idea to my Pupcake Sugar team, I was met with a few ruffs of doubt. It wasn’t that they didn’t believe in my new “crazy idea.” It’s that there weren’t any numbers backing up whether it would even work. It’s not like there were pups who decided to open their own pupcakery. And, there definitely weren’t too many pups delivering packages to pups at home. However, in the words of Henri Matisse…
Creativity takes courage.
That courage was enough to push me to take my first step with another “crazy idea” of mine. While the numbers weren’t necessarily there, I had my gut to lead the way. And, the Pupcake Sugar #PupSelfCareSunday Kit became one of my most successful “crazy ideas” yet.
Now don’t get me wrong. There are several times where this pup business owner has wondered whether her gut was making the right decision. Whether I should continue with this “crazy idea” or throw in the barking towel. However, a “yes” to at least one of these three questions confirms all that my gut is telling me.
DID I THINK ABOUT IT TODAY?
If I’m all in on a “crazy idea” it’s always at the front of my pup mind. It shows up in my dreams. I talk about it with anyone who’ll listen and everything around me becomes inspiration for it. If I’m constantly thinking about something, it means that I’m headed in the right direction.
DOES IT MAKE ME EXCITED?
Boredom is not an option. As a pup business owner, you’re constantly working on projects and the last thing you need is a “crazy idea” that absolutely bores you. Especially, if you run into a difficult phase for that project and have to push through to make it work. So, I made a rule. If I’m not excited about something I’m working on or I don’t find the joy, then I usually let it go.
CAN I MAKE IT WORK?
Pup business owners are doers. They’re constantly figuring out ways to bring their “crazy ideas” into fruition. That’s why all “crazy ideas” need a plan. It helps you map out all the necessary steps that you need to take. Trusting your gut is good, but that’ll only get you to the first step. That plan will help you map out whether you can make something work or not. And, as long as I can make things work, my “crazy idea” is good to go.
In the world of pup business ownership, there’s no right or wrong way to go after your “crazy idea.” It’s all about having the courage to trust yourself. So, I’d love to hear from you.
