How to Create Your Pupcake Legacy

Pupcake Legacy

In my family, pupcake recipes are passed down from generation to generation.  It’s a part of our legacy.

Every pup that taught me about baking pupcakes, baked from scratch.  So, that’s what I learned.  You bake pupcakes from scratch, period.

However, the pupcake bakers in my family were absolute geniuses.  They never wrote any recipe down.  They baked from memory.  There were no pupcake recipe cards.  Or, quick Moogle searches.  It was just time in the kitchen with one another, learning, laughing, and creating some amazing memories.

When I decided to open up my own pupcakery the bake from memory strategy wasn’t going to work.  One, I wasn’t going to be the one baking pupcakes all the time.  There are so many other things that come with running a business, that I was going to have to hire help.  Two, these pupcakes had to come out the same every time.  Once pups buy into a flavor, they’re going to want that same taste each and every time.

So, there I was.  Sitting at my desk trying to map out all the pupcake recipes that I’ve baked through the years from memory.

It was definitely an experience.  I mean, really.  What’s the difference between a pinch and a dab?  How much is a sprinkle exactly?  And, how long is bake it until it’s done?

These directions were fine when I was at home.  However, when it came to operating a pupcakery, those directions were going to have to be exact and taste the same every time.

The process to recreating my pupcake recipes was long, but it’s worth it.  This process was the first step in me sharing the beauty of our family legacy with the world.

A personal journey is part of the generational relay. Live your legacy then pass it on.

Every pup can put their own spin on the pupcakes they bake.  And, baking pupcakes is one of the many ways pups can build and pass down their own legacies.  Whether you’re interested in opening up your own pupcakery or passing it down to the pups in your family, make sure you do these things when doing so.

MEASURE YOUR INGREDIENTS

A tad of this and a sprinkle of that is great, but throw a few actual measurements in there.  Ingredients are the root of all pupcakes.  They’re what make pupcakes, well, pupcakes.  So, share the actual measurements.  It’ll give them a base and good starting point as they adapt the recipe to make it their own.

RECORD YOUR RECIPES

Some pups still don’t believe in this method, but trust me.   Documenting your recipes is always a good idea.  With all the things a pup has to remember these days, it’s nice to have a reference source.  Make it a fun activity.  Write it on fun paper.  Record a recipe video.  And, make sure you include the time it should take to bake.

OWN THE FORMULA

Now, I’m all for measuring things out and recording them for safe keeping.  However, notice I didn’t say share with every pup in the world.  Only share your recipe and technique with the pups who need to know.  And, always keep a piece of that formula for you and the ones closest to you.  That’s what makes it special.  Nostalgic.  And, something you can pass down to your next generation.

I will always hold those moments I spent with my family learning how to bake pupcakes close to my heart.  I didn’t know it then, but my early pupcake baking years set the tone for my forever career home.  And, it’s been an amazing pupcake journey.  But, now I’d love to hear from you.

What is the biggest lesson you learned while creating your formula?
