How to Choose the Right Pupcake Recipe

How to Choose the Right Pupcake Recipe

There so many pupcake recipes to choose from.  Some recipes are short and sweet while others may cause us to stretch outside our baking comfort zones.  Needless to say, there are a ton of pupcake recipes out there.  So, before you start baking, here are a few things to think about to that’ll help you choose the pupcake recipe that’s right for you and your dog.

DIET

Learn and understand your dog’s dietary constraints.  Some dogs will eat anything you give them and be fine.  However, other dogs may have foods that don’t agree with them.  So, choose recipes that have ingredients that work for your dog’s diet.

GOALS

You read that right.  What’s your goal for baking the pupcake?  Is it to make something quick and easy?  Are you making it to celebrate your dog’s birthday?  Are you baking for one dog or a room full of dogs?  There are so many recipes to choose from.  Identifying the need you’re trying to solve will make picking a pupcake recipe much easier.

FLAVOR

What’s your dog’s favorite flavor?  Does she love apples?  Does he get excited when you feed him a few blueberries?  Perhaps a spoon full of sweet potatoes is their favorite.  Choose a recipe with flavors that bring your dog joy.  Baking pupcakes is also a good strategy if you want your dog to try certain foods.  Like the time I tried to get Sugar to eat a few raw carrots.  She looked at me like I was crazy.  However, if I chop those carrots up and put it in a pupcake, she’s all for it.

INGREDIENTS

You can’t bake pupcakes without ingredients.  Sometimes the ingredients you have in the house or available in the store will make the decision for you.  That’s why I always advocate starting simple.  So, check out these 3 Fruits Every New Pupcake Baker Should Have in Her Fridge.

STORAGE

Unless you’re going to serve all your pupcakes as soon as they come out of the oven, where you store your pupcakes matters.  Choose a recipe that yields pupcakes that you have room to keep in your refrigerator or freezer.  I store my pupcakes in the freezer.  They last and stay fresher longer.
