There are three types of BFF’s every pup needs in her life.
The one who encourages you to go after your “crazy” idea. The one who shows up to support you and your “crazy” idea. And, the one who brings you back to reality when your idea gets a little too…well…crazy.
My squad definitely has all three, which definitely makes for some howl-arious moments. So, ‘tis the season to celebrate all of them.
Well honestly, every season is the season to celebrate my BFFs. Especially since they’ve gotten me through a lot of those not so glamorous pup business owner moments. However, gone are the days when hitting up the latest yappy hour is our number one priority.
We’ve got pup-dulting to do.
Between packed schedules, changing responsibilities and chasing our “crazy” ideas, it’s almost a miracle when we find a date that works for every pup’s schedule.
Needless to say, quality BFF time is more precious and valuable than ever. Especially during the holiday season. This year, however, thanks to tight budgets, last minute planning and my human’s sudden urge to start going to bed a little earlier, my BFFs decided to change up our usual holiday celebration.
We traded in the pup holiday party scene of ugly holiday sweaters, packed clubs and random male pups trying to bark in your ear (Sir, I have a boyfriend) for some cute pup holiday onesies and a much-needed pup girls’ night in. And in the words of Jane Fonda…
Women’s friendships are like a renewable source of power.
But, there’s more to a great girls’ night in with your BFFs than some cute onesies from Tail-get. Although, they do help. And if your BFFs are anything like mine, they’ll definitely let you know if your party actually sucks.
So, to help you avoid that embarrassment completely, here are my five ingredients (yes, baking pun intended) to planning an ultimate girls’ night in.
MAKE THE CALENDAR ALERT WORTH IT
We’re all busy. So, when the stars actually do align and you and your BFFs find a date on the calendar that works for all of you, then it should be worth it. Create some fun bonding activities. I don’t care if it’s playing games, watching movies or woofing your favorite song into a spoon. If your BFFs are bored and constantly checking the time, your pass to the next BFF get together will more than likely be revoked.
MUST INCLUDE PUPCAKES
Your menu is everything. Because, really. Who can enjoy themselves with a bad case of the pup hangries? So, whether you’re going pup-luck, ordering out or making the food yourself, every pup’s belly should be full and thirst should be quenched. And just in case someone wants to go back for seconds, make sure there’s enough food for your BFFs to have more than one plate. Of course, I’m partial to pupcakes. So, I highly recommend these mocktail inspired Cranberry Apple Cider Mini Bundt Pupcakes. And, if one of your BFFs can’t cook, it might be a good idea to put her in charge of decorations or something unrelated to the menu.
ADD A LITTLE FLAVOR
Throw some decorations in the mix. Incorporate a theme. Adding these elements to your pup girls’ night in makes it a little more festive, adds some excitement and makes the pup selfies a little more fun to post. Quick tip. Don’t go overboard (unless that’s what you and your BFFs are into). Sometimes pup-dulting makes it a little hard to run back and forth to the store. Sometimes adding a little flavor can be nothing more than wearing cute pup onesies (wink. wink.)
RESPECT THE “CRAZY”
We’re all ambitious pups chasing “crazy” ideas and trying to turn our dreams into a reality. And, we all know that when we get together with our BFFs, sometimes that pup life realness comes out. I mean. Sharing our vulnerabilities is a lot easier when we’re together. Your squad is your safe space. Time with your BFFs should be the time when you can be yourself and get real. If not, you’re in the wrong squad. So, if one or more of your BFFs decides to update everyone on their “crazy” idea, such as…I don’t know…starting their own Pupcake business, create an environment that will be respectful, loving and supportive.
CELEBRATE YOUR BFFs
My BFFs are my pup life line. They get me. And like I said, they’ve been there through those not so glamorous pup business owner moments. As I’m sure your BFFs have been there for you. So, find a way to celebrate your pups and show them love during your next girls’ night in. Honestly, my personal favorite are gift bags. A small token to show my pups that their support is much appreciated.
Also, my favorite thing about getting together with my BFFs is we can pick up right where we left off and there’s always a ton of stories to share. I’d also love to hear from you.
