5 Reasons Why Baking Pupcakes Should Be A Part of Your Self-Care

self-care baking

Baking pupcakes is the ultimate form of self-care.

At least that’s how I see it.  Pupcakes have always been my go to self-care practice.  Even when I didn’t realize it.  Baking pupcakes have gotten me through some really interesting, to say the least, times.

BAKING PUPCAKES IS A MINDFULNESS PRACTICE

The only way baking works is if you live in the moment.  You’re either reading the recipe or focusing on your measurements.  Mixing ingredients or watching them bake in the oven.  There’s no time to focus on anything else, but those pupcakes.

THE AROMA MAKES ME FORGET ALL THE THINGS

Aroma sparks emotion and can immediately distract you from whatever is bothering you.  Even if it’s just for a second.  Candles and essential oils are great.  However, nothing gets my nose more excited than the smell of pupcakes baking in the oven.  The aroma always warms my heart and brings some joy and comfort.

BAKING OFFERS THE ULTIMATE REWARD

What would self-care be if we couldn’t treat ourselves?  The best part of baking pupcakes is you get to eat one of them afterwards.  It’s almost like instant gratification.  Every pupcake that comes out of the oven becomes an instant “treat yo’ self” moment for you or any pup you love.

PUPCAKES EQUAL CREATIVITY

Every pupcake that we bake is a chance to express our own creativity.  Baking pupcakes is an art and a feeling.  Recipes are just a blue print.  It’s up to the baker to put their own twist on it.  Tapping into your creativity is always a way to self-care.

PUPCAKES IS ALL ABOUT THE LOVE

In my family, recipes are passed down from generation to generation.  Every pupcake is connected to a pup in my family that baked pupcakes before me.  And, each one of us adding our own flavor to the recipe.  So, the way I see it pupcakes are about love and feeding the soul.  Baking pupcakes feeds the soul.  And, in my mind feeding the soul is self-care.  In the words of Thomas Keller…

A recipe has no soul. You as the cook must bring the soul to the recipe.

I was a puppy the first time I baked pupcakes.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  Me, mixing the pack of ingredients in the kitchen that came with my Easy Pupcake Oven.  I was intrigued how a few ingredients could turn into a tasty experience in a few minutes.

Ok.  It probably took a little longer for those pupcakes to get done.  My first successful attempt at baking pupcakes made me so proud.  You would’ve thought I’d won an episode of Pupcake Wars the way I barked about those pupcakes.

As I got older, baking became my self-care practice without me really recognizing it.  I graduated from mixing packets with my Easy Pupcake Oven to baking these Banana French Toast Pupcakes in a real oven. Anytime I need some me-time, I find myself in my kitchen baking my little heart out.

I mean, really.  How can you focus on anything else while you’re blending sweet potatoes for your next recipe?  The sound alone will drown out every thought you had in your mind so you focus on the baking.  However, I’d love to hear from you.  So, let’s dish.
