I’ve learned that it’s extremely easy to set a goal.
Honestly, a goal is nothing more than a “crazy idea.” And, every pup has had one “crazy idea” in their life. Especially, if you’re a pup business owner. Your pup life revolves around a “crazy idea.”
In fact, I set goals daily. Every night I sit and write them down. Now, every goal isn’t as big or as “crazy” as starting your own pupcakery. However, every day I have a goal to accomplish something. Even if it’s as simple as getting in the bed before the clock strikes midnight.
So, I’ve learned that the hard part isn’t setting a goal. It’s the execution. Do you know how many times, I’ve set a goal to get up earlier so my human and I could go for a walk and ended up sleeping in because it’s raining? Some pups may call it a distraction. Ok. I’ll admit it. It is. But, I’m not getting my fur wet for nobody. Especially, if I just got groomed. Thank you.
Anyway, distractions happen. Those distractions can come in the form of lack of motivation, self-doubt, other pups’ opinions or even a little unexpected rain on a Monday morning.
Distractions can even cause us to quit our goal sometimes before we even get started. I’m not ashamed. However, in the world of pup business ownership, distractions lead down the road of remaining completely stagnant. It leads to pup dreams turning into an endless vision of pup mirages.
And as much as I’d like to use that rain as an excuse, I’ve learned that getting out for my morning walk with my human is better. I guess I can tough it out in the rain with that rain coat hanging in my closet. And as the saying goes…
A goal without a plan is just a wish.
Believe me. It’s much easier to distract a pup from a wish. So, today I’m sharing a few ways to help any pup execute on their goal.
STAY FOCUSED ON THE BIG PICTURE
The little every day details of working towards a goal, or what I like to call a “crazy idea,” can sometimes become the main focus. The more you focus on the small things, the easier it is to forget about the goal you’re working toward. So. With every step you take in your pup journey, keep the big vision in the front of your mind. Put it on a vision board. Write it down. Repeat to yourself while looking in the mirror. Do whatever you need to do to keep you focused on that big picture goal.
KNOW YOUR WHY
The “why” is more important than the what. I’ll bark it again for the pups in the back. The “why” is more important than the what. Knowing your reason for a certain goal adds emotion, feeling and purpose behind every action you take. It makes those not so glamorous moments “crazy idea” journey worth it.
CELEBRATE THE SMALL WINS
While we focus on the big picture, the small wins we have along the way are important too. Those small wins are growth. They are the experiences that prepare us more for that big goal we’re aiming for. They give us stories to tell as we reflect back on how far we’ve come. The small wins are even a great way to keep us motivated. And, it never hurts to celebrate with these Carob Peanut Butter Cup Pupcakes.
FIND A BARK-LEADER
Going after a “crazy idea” alone can be hard. Having a pup there to bark you on or there to woof you through your issues makes the journey a lot easier to handle. And, your accountability pup doesn’t have to be your BFF. It can be a teacher, coach or even some pup’s video you catch online. Hearing other pups can still be the inspiration you need to help keep you going.
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
How can you celebrate the small (and big) wins if you don’t know how you’re doing along the way? Find a way to take note of how you’re progressing through your journey. For instance, when I first started baking pupcakes, they tasted horrible. It was difficult learning how to bake with paws. But, now look at me. I’m 125 pupcakes in and still going strong.
Every pup has a “crazy idea” they’re working towards. And if they don’t, they definitely have a “crazy idea” they’ve thought about going after, but haven’t taken that first leap of faith yet. The key is as they say “starving your distractions and feeding your focus.” So, I’d love to hear from you.
