Summer brings the heat. And, so does that hot oven baking those pupcakes you decided to try. But, I’ve learned a trick or two…or seven about how to beat the heat and stay cool while you’re baking pupcakes in the summer. And today, I’m passing on those cool tips on to you.
WEAR COOL CLOTHES
Fall is for layers. Summer is for lighter fabrics and less clothing. Embrace that. Wear comfortable clothes that are keep you cool, such as shorts, short-shirts, tank tops, etc. Wearing less fabric is a great way to keep cool while you’re standing next to the oven.
WRAP YOUR HAIR
Hair in your face or laying on your shoulders can be distracting when you’re trying to read the recipe. It can also make you hot. Plus, you run the risk of your hair falling into the batter. So, wrap your hair in scarf, pull it back in bun, or put it in a bonnet. Whatever you need to do to keep your hair out of your face.
STAY HYDRATED
Drink water. It’ll help your body cool down if the kitchen gets too hot. Drinking water will also help replenish your body if you happen to sweat or your body gets hot. Whether you love room temperature or ice cold, drink it.
CRACK A WINDOW OR USE A FAN
Opening a window or turning on the fan in the kitchen will help the air circulate in the room, which can help cool the kitchen down. It also keeps your body from overheating.
TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS
Turn down the lights in your kitchen or close the shades. Direct light from either the sun or your kitchen lights can increase the temperature of the room. Reducing the amount of light shining directly in the kitchen while you’re baking will help keep the kitchen cooler.
BAKE EARLY IN THE DAY
Most kitchens are hotter when the sun is high. Turning your oven on doesn’t help. So, bake your pupcakes early in the morning or in the evening when the sun’s not at its highest. Mornings are actually my favorite time to bake because you have the rest of the day to actually enjoy what you baked.
MAKE FROSTING
Forget baking pupcakes altogether and just make your dog’s favorite pupcake frosting. You and your dog will get the best of both worlds. You’ll still get to create in the kitchen and your dog gets a delicious treat to show for it without turning on your oven.
