You know what my real secret is to winning my morning routine?
Breakfast. Yep, breakfast. While reciting “morning bark-firmations” in the mirror is great and organizing everything I need in the morning the night before works, breakfast is essential to me having a good day.
I don’t care what song I decide to bark to on my morning commute. If, there’s no food in my tummy, this pup’s not going to be productive at all. Seriously…think about it.
Have you ever tried to conduct a morning meeting while hiding the fact that your stomach is growling? Tried to concentrate on a budget meeting while you’re trying to ignore the smell of some pup heating up their meal in the office kitchen? Or, had to handle a sensitive pup business matter with a case of the “pup hangries?”
I have. And, it’s not the best situation for me, or any other pup, to ever be productive.
This happened to me all the time when I was at BarkScent. I’d dash out the house with no real breakfast and get to the office right in the nick of time. I actually never thought about eating breakfast because I was never really that hungry in the morning.
However, after sitting in several meetings with my tummy growling, I figured I needed to do something different. Especially, when the last growl was so loud that every pup in the room turned to look in my direction.
Side note. I still don’t understand why the pups never insisted on having some sort of breakfast at these important morning meetings. I’m not the only one who’d run out the house without their morning chow.
Anyway, I’m actually ten times busier now that I’m a pup business owner. There’s less time for me to eat because my schedule is usually jammed packed with things to do. However, I can’t operate without any food in my system. Especially, in the morning. So, I literally had to make the time to make breakfast a priority. In the words of Tracy Turnblad from the musical Hairspray…
I’ll eat some breakfast, then change the world.
And, change the world indeed. A good breakfast in my system has made balancing all of these responsibilities much easier. Breakfast gives me the energy I need to be super productive. Making time for breakfast, ironically, has even kept me more organized with my time and finances.
Really…it has. You see. I don’t have time to make breakfast from scratch every morning. It’s just not possible. So, I’ve become an expert at meal prepping my breakfast (and lunch and dinner). Every Sunday, you can find me in the kitchen cooking my meals for the week.
Once my meals are done, I just pop them in the freezer. And, when it’s time to eat breakfast in the morning, all I have to do is grab it from my freezer, pop it in the microwave and eat. If I’m in a rush, I can eat it on the run, even though it’s not my preferred way to eat.
Whether it’s a fruit pupcake parfait or salmon quiche, a stack of hotcakes, or a scrambled egg, my breakfast is ready to go. I’ve also reduced the number of nudges I spend on purchasing food on the go, which means more nudges to add to my portfolio savings. So, I’m with Tracy Turnblad on this one. Breakfast is how I win my mornings and it’ll always be the first thing I do before I change the world.
