Any other pups out there ready for the holiday break?

I certainly am.  These shorter days and longer nights are starting to get to me.  When I wake up, it’s dark.  When I go to bed, it’s dark.  What I wouldn’t give for a few extra hours of sunshine.  I’ll take dog days of summer over the cold bark of winter anytime.

This is actually the time of year when I start to lose all focus related to anything related to work.  Pup business ownership becomes especially difficult this season. 

My pup brain is definitely on vacation mode.

That’s why I make it a point to make sure all the important projects are completed by this time.  I also make sure that any planning that needs to be done for the beginning of the new year is done.  This way I can hit the ground running.

So, right now, all I have to do is maintain those daily pup business owner activities until my holiday break comes along.  And, my pup brain can enjoy the beauty of getting ready for the holidays.

In fact, I went to my first pup holiday party last night.  There was music, games and of course there were pupcakes.  There was an ugly holiday pup sweater contest.  

There was even one pup who decided it would be a great idea to start a pup snow ball fight.  For the record, I don’t do snow.  So, I happily stayed inside where the music was going and the pupcakes were flowing.

I had so much fun, I completely overslept this morning.  When my human gets up, I make sure I get up with her.  I follow her around until she leaves for the day.  This way I know exactly when Pupcake Sugar is open for business.  However, today I didn’t move until she literally said she was leaving.  Believe me…we pups sure know how to party.

Anyway, this is also the time of year when I shutdown the actual Pupcake Sugar pup-cakery for two weeks.  Because my human, and most humans, are taking off for the holidays, it’s way too difficult to do any type of pup business ownership.  So, it makes more sense to just shut things down.

Also, it gives me the chance to chill and spend some quality time with my human since she’s home during the day.  Not, to mention the fact that I can still sneak away to a pup party here and there.

Most importantly, this is the time of the year to celebrate me.  It’s a time to revel in my accomplishments, growth and self-love.  In the words of Brene Brown…

Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.

And in my mind, talking, or shall I say barking, isn’t just speaking.  It’s how we treat ourselves.  Love ourselves.  It’s even those thoughts we hold onto in our minds about ourselves.

It’s true.  This time of year is definitely the time for giving to others.  However, I look at this time as a way to give to me.  And, how do I give?  I spread puppy love to all that I am and all that I’m becoming.  Because how can I give love to others, if I can’t puppy love on me?  How can I celebrate others, if I don’t celebrate me?

So, while we’re all spreading love, patience, joy and cheer to others, let’s remember to do the same for ourselves.  While we’re celebrating each other, let’s celebrate all that we are and all that we’re becoming.  Let’s reflect on every lesson we learned and every pupcake we’ve baked.  Let’s revel in all the Pupcake Pup-tales we’ve added and will continue to add to our portfolios.

  • 10 – 12 Mini Pupcakes

Ingredients

Gingerbread Pupcakes

  • 1/2 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1/3 Cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Teaspoon Pure Honey
  • 1 Egg

Honey Glazed Icing (Optional)

  • 1/4 Cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Pure Honey

Instructions

For Gingerbread Pupcakes

  • 1Preheat oven to 350° F. Line 10 – 12 1.75-inch mini-muffin pan with paper bake cups and set aside.
  • 2In small bowl mix together, flour, baking powder, ginger, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • 3In a large mixing bowl add olive oil, yogurt, honey and egg. Beat on medium speed about 2 minutes or until combined.
  • 4Add dry ingredients into the mixture and blend for approximately 2 minutes until well mixed.
  • 5Fill each cupcake liner with 1 tablespoon of pupcake mix.
  • 6Bake pupcakes for 12 minutes. Pupcakes are done when you can stick a toothpick into the cake and it comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
  • 7Drizzle honey glazed icing onto the pupcakes. (optional)

For Honey Glazed Icing (Optional)

  • 1In small mixing bowl beat yogurt and honey together on medium speed.
  • 2Drizzle honey glazed icing onto the pupcakes.
