How to Survive Holiday Potluck Season

How to Survive the Holiday Potluck

I’ve never been a fan of the office pup-luck.

We used to have them every year while I was working at Scent.  And, somehow the same pups would sign up to bring their “world famous,” “best ever,” “gourmet styled” dishes.

I remember thinking, “Why can’t pups just stick to the basics?”  Like apples with a side of peanut butter.  Chicken with some rice.  Or, even a simple fruit salad.  Better yet, why not just get rid of the pup-luck altogether.  It’s much easier for pups in the office to chip in a few nudges and buy food from the Corner Barkery.

This way we can avoid eating Emma’s “world famous” sweet potato salad completely.  I mean, really.  No one wants your sweet potato salad Emma.  We all know where your paws have been.

After a while I realized that this pup luck nonsense wasn’t’ going away.  So, I figured it was better to just to deal with it.  You know the phrase, “When in Rome, do as the Roman’s do.” However, my philosophy is a bit different.

I figure, when in Rome leave your paw prints for the world to see.

So, one year, I decided put my own twist on the holiday pup luck and contribute my pupcakes to the party.  It’s probably better than whining how much I hate these pup-lucks anyway.  At least, there’ll be some food there that I actually like.  And because I know some random pup in accounting will insist on touching every pupcake with his paw to pick the one he wants, I decided to individually wrap them in pupcake boxes.

So, in honor of what seems like National Office Pup-Luck Season, I decided to share three of my favorite pupcake recipes for your next holiday pup-luck.

STRAWBERRY PARFAIT PUPCAKES

Although I’m not a fan of pup-lucks, if I had to choose a time of day to have one it would be for breakfast.  Think about it.  Breakfast pup-lucks in the office are always short and sweet.  Pups aren’t expected to hang around longer than necessary.  It always made it easy for pups like me who didn’t want to indulge in any of the food.  So, I can sneak in and out without anyone noticing.  However, these Strawberry Parfait Pupcakes are definitely my choice for all those breakfast pup-lucks out there.  They’re sweet, delicious and are a great burst of energy to get your day started.

SWEET POTATO PIE PUPCAKES

Is it just me?  Or does work never get done after the lunch pup-lucks are over.  After every pup has swapped gifts and we played a few rounds of pup holiday bingo, sitting at your desk doing work is simply not anyone’s first choice.  That’s why these Sweet Potato Pie Pupcakes are perfect for the lunch pup-lucks.  They’re decadent and the perfect comfort food to snack on while you’re pretending to get work done at your desk.   Plus, these pupcakes will beat Emma’s “world famous” sweet potato salad any day of the week.

PUP-TELLA PUPCAKES

Office dinner pup-lucks are usually a little fancier.  Pups are off the clock, so no one is worried about getting back to their cube for a phone call.  Pups are often a little more relaxed, but also know that this social time is a great way to bond with their managers.  So, these office pup-lucks are all about making a good impression.  These Pup-tella Pupcakes are the perfect choice.  They’re rich and are the perfect blend of sweet and creamy.

And what’s an office pup-luck without a little gossip on the side.  I’d love to hear a little tea.

What’s your favorite pup-luck go-to dish?  Or, how do you avoid the office pup-lucks altogether?
