“So, what’s your plan?”
Bean barked as he listed to me woof about my frustrations. As any pup business owner knows, bringing your “crazy idea” to reality takes a lot of hard work and can sometimes get a bit expensive.
This year has really been a testament to that. With all the “unexpected curveballs,” I began to run out of steam. I knew I needed a break, but one week turned into two, which turned into a month then three. The “crazy ideas” stopped flowing and I even began to lose my love for baking pupcakes.
I decided to have a heart to heart with my mentor, Bean. Bean was my manager turned mentor while I worked at BarkScent Magazine. He loves data, remembers everything and has no interest in listening to problems unless there’s a solution.
Bean is all about helping pups stretch to their fullest potential and has a knack for seeing talent in pups even when they don’t see it in themselves. He has always been supportive of me and my “crazy ideas.” In fact, he was totally onboard when I left BarkScent to start Pupcake Sugar.
So, as I sat across from him a Corner Barkery woofing about my lack of motivation to bake pupcakes and my concerns on Pupcake Sugar being temporarily closed, he stopped me in mid-woof with one simple question.
“So, what’s your plan?”
“I don’t know,” I answered. I guess I spent so much time focusing on the “unexpected curveball” that I completely lost sight of how to fix it. In fact, focusing on the issue was weighing me down in the first place. However, Bean’s quick-witted response reminded me…
Focusing on the problem is a distraction. Focus on the solution.
Because the last thing we need is a distraction taking us away from our game-changing ideas. Leave it to Bean to snap me back to reality. Our time at Corner Barkery gave us the chance to catch up, but also gave me the inspiration I needed to refocus and get moving on my solution. But, I’d love to hear from you.
