Dog moms using ChatGPT: this one’s for you. When I was looking for a new job, someone said to me, “Be open to new career opportunities.”  I was grateful for the advice.  But in my head, I thought, “WTF does that even mean?  How do I look for a new job or career if I don’t know what that looks like?”  And at the time nobody seemed to be hiring.  Well…at least hiring me.

Fast forward a few years later.  I was working but felt like I was ready for my next career move.  This time I decided to get creative and use ChatGPT to help me.  So, in this blog post, I’m sharing how ChatGPT helped me make my next career move.

WHAT IS CHATGPT?

Let’s start with the basics.  ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI that generates human-like responses based on the prompts you give it.  In other words, ChatGPT is your very own digital personal assistant.

For your career search, ChatGPT can help you draft cover letters, revise resumes, build interview responses, or even create a weekly job search schedule that works for your dog mom soft life. And yes.  There is a free version.

5 REASONS DOG MOMS ALREADY USE CHATGPT

As a digital personal assistant, ChatGPT can provide dog moms with tools to help us really embrace our soft life goals.  In addition to helping with schedules and organizing other daily tasks, there are some less obvious ways dog moms can really take advantage of ChatGPT as a digital personal assistant.

Create A Vet Visit Budget & Savings Plan – Use the chat to create a custom savings breakdown for your dog’s vet care.  This can be added to a financial binder, a planner, or saved digitally.

Plan A Dog Mommy & Me Date – Ask ChatGPT to plan a low-cost, fun Dog Mommy & Me Date for you and your dog.  You can work with the chat to establish a vibe, timeframe, budget, etc. to create a tailored date for you and your dog.

Create A Grocery List – Use ChatGPT to create a grocery list that helps you meal prep for you and your dog.  The list can include dog-safe fruits and veggies you can pack for your dog mommy and me date.  It also helps you maximize your food budget and reducing waste.

Create A Dog Mom Emergency Binder – A Dog Mom Emergency Binder is a centralized, easy-to-grab file that holds all the essential information about your dog’s health, care routine, and emergency contacts in case something unexpected happens to you or your pup.  ChatGPT can help you get started with creating the documents for your binder.

Prepare for Vet or Grooming Appointments – Generate a prep sheet with questions to ask, items to bring, and reminders so you can walk into appointments ready and with the information you need.

5 WAYS CHATGPT CAN SUPPORT YOUR CAREER SEARCH

Ok.  Now, let’s get to the real reason why you’re here.  ChatGPT really helped me turned a little uncertainty into a career plan.

Career Brainstorming – ChatGPT helped me think through that strategically.  It literally prompted me with questions on my skillset, experience, and what I like to do to helped me think through what I want to do in my career.

Job Description Creation – After brainstorming, I was able to create an actual job description that was custom to my goals and aspirations.  Instead of scrolling through hundreds (Yes. Hundreds) of job descriptions to figure out what fit me, I had a blueprint, and a job description search game plan.

Resume & Cover Letter Writing – The next step was to tailor my resume that aligned to that job description.  I uploaded my resume and had the chat adjust my experience to match the language of the industry.

Find Where The Jobs Are – Now, the next step was to find where these jobs were.  ChatGPT helped me out with that as well.  It gave me some companies in my area and in other cities that are hiring for that position.  That helped me establish more of a targeting job search.  It was also helpful in providing guidance on how to create this job description at my current job.

Interview Prep – Let’s not forget the interview.  ChatGPT helped me establish questions that might be asked during the interview.  It also provided me with help on how to give clear examples from my resume to answer the questions. 

Ultimately, this prep work with ChatGPT helped me land a better job at my current company.  It really helped me think strategically about my next career move.  Especially, since Sugar’s vet expenses aren’t cheap.

MY FIRST CHATGPT PROMPT

Not all prompts are created equal. A strategic prompt helps ChatGPT generate responses tailored to your goals, tone, and needs. Here’s the prompt I used to help you get started.  Copy and paste the prompt into the chat.  Fill in the brackets with your personal information.

I am exploring career options and need a job description for a role that fits my background. My experience is in [list past jobs, industries, or skills]. I want a role that includes [list key job functions, leadership opportunities, flexibility, remote work, or industry preferences]. Can you generate a compelling job description for a role that aligns with my skills, experience, goals, and aspirations? I’ve also attached my [documents that describe your experience (i.e., resume, outline of projects, etc.].

The key to using ChatGPT to help is also about prompting.  This is key to helping you create a custom career search plan.  So, if you’re looking to taking it a step further, I took everything that I learned and turned into this Dog Mom’s Guide to Finding a Job with ChatGPT.

LET’S GET TO THE MATH

Yep!  There goes that Dog Mom Math again.  It helped me think strategically when trying to determine my salary requirements.  It also helped me determine what was a reasonable expectation for the money I could make in the role, which is essential when managing my budget.  So, let’s dish about how the dog mom math got me mathin’.

 Define What “Enough” Looks Like – I used ChatGPT to reverse-engineer my ideal monthly income, factoring my current necessary expenses, like rent, pet care, or insurance. The goal was to make sure that I could not only cover my essentials but also structure a way to align it to my pay schedule.

Reframe Career Costs as Savings – Gas, tolls, bus passes, and parking are all costs that can be associated with your job and career.  The key is making sure that the costs I pay to get there was going to be worth it.  So, as I mapped out my next move, I use that logic to think through my salary requirements.

Protect My Dog Mom “Soft Life” – The “soft life” requires planning, but it also requires paying for it.  For me, spending time with Sugar is a “soft life” requirement.  So, I want a job that was going to financially enable me to do that.  My new role had to align to my dog mom lifestyle and provide a way for me to manage those expenses.

Right now, someone is readying this thinking that I got ChatGPT to do all the work for me.  That’s not true at all.  However, when you’re feeling stuck and looking for a change, sometimes having a guided tool to help you think things through is needed.  Especially, when you’re looking for your next career move.

The soft life is more than buying things.  It’s about using the tools you have and building micro-habits to make your life a little easier.  ChatGPT helped me brainstorm, put structure to my thoughts, and help create a career plan that I didn’t know existed.  All while Sugar sat snuggled in my lap.
