Monthly Dish: Chicken & Waffle Pupcakes

Chicken & Waffle Pupcakes

Anytime I bake Sugar a pupcake, her face lights up.  It melts my heart and makes me smile every time.  Sugar’s reaction reminds me that small things can have a meaningful impact.   So, this year, I’m reaffirming my gratitude for the small things that always lead to something greater.

This month’s dish is dedicated to cherishing the small ingredients as they work together to create an amazing pupcake recipe.  This Chicken & Waffle Pupcake recipe comes straight from our eBook, Pupcake Soul: Recipes to Celebrate Us and a Few Love Stories to Go with Them.

ABOUT THE CHICKEN & WAFFLE PUPCAKES

This Chicken & Waffles Pupcake recipe combines sweet and savory flavors into one gourmet treat for your dog.  The oven fried chicken seasoned with turmeric, basil, and parsley is the savory star topping for these pupcakes.  Cooked chicken is an excellent source of protein for dogs.  It also is a good source of vitamin B6, vitamin B3, and zinc.  Turmeric contains curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can support joint health, aid digestion, and boost the immune system.  Parsley contains vitamins A, C, and K, which support immune function, promote healthy digestion, and help freshen breath.  Basil contains antioxidants that help reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, and may provide calming effects to reduce stress for your dog.  The white sweet potato frosting, and the drizzle of maple syrup adds the sweet balance to this gourmet dog treat flavor.

WHEN TO BAKE THESE CHICKEN & WAFFLE PUPCAKES

These Chicken & Waffle Pupcakes are great for dogs who love sweet and savory treats.  Some dogs, like Sugar, want more attention and cuddle time during the winter.  So, these pupcakes are great comfort food treat before a little cuddle time with your dog on the couch.  This pupcake recipe is a little more advanced and does have a few extra steps than some of our other recipes.  However, it’s a great recipe for dog moms who love to bake and are looking for an activity to do with their dog when it’s too cold to go outside.

BAKING AFFIRMATION

“I choose to bake unapologetically.”  Every pupcake recipe is filled with small ingredients and small steps that lead to something greater.  We have a choice in how we want to bake in this world.  Every day is an opportunity to choose how we’re going to use the ingredients we have right in front of us.  And no matter what, our dogs are always there to watch us bake, cheering us on, and ready to celebrate with pupcakes.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

I started Pupcake Sugar when I was laid off and it helped me rediscover my own creative talents.  Plus, I could save a little money on store bought treats I’d been buying for Sugar too.  Hence, how I turned Sugar’s daily shenanigans into a brand.  I created an illustrated character inspired by her and her love of pupcakes.  Sugar’s character is a “pupcakepreneur” that owns and operates her own pupcakery called Pupcake Sugar.

Sugar shares her stories of life, love, and favorite pupcake recipes.  We invite you to her world.  Sign up for the Pupcake Sugar mailing list to get Sugar’s favorite birthday pupcake recipe to try at home with your dog.  Also, check out the Shop page for more of Sugar’s pupcake recipes and the stories that inspired them.

As with any dog treat, these Chicken & Waffle Pupcakes should be given to your dog in moderation.  They should not replace or serve as your dog’s primary diet.  Please consult with your veterinarian on your dog’s diet.
