What The Café Taught Me About Brunch Behavior

Sunday Brunch

Shout out to The Café.  It taught me everything I needed to learn about the brunch behavior.

The Café was a whole mood at Huffton University.  It wasn’t the food.  Or, the décor.  Or, even the fancy dishes…because there wasn’t anything fancy about them.  It was the family meal dynamic that appeared the moment your paws entered the room.

Huffton.  My Home By The River.  I spent four years of my life growing, learning, and meeting pups that’ve become more than friends to me.  They’re family.  The Café brought us together, made time stand still, and even gave us our first lessons in the brunch experience.  However, four lessons stand out.

FOOD IS A FEELING

The Café had the standard food choices and the daily specials.  Every food decision was based on our mood.  Am I feeling chicken or salmon?  Do I have time to sit and eat or do I need something quick before my next class?  Would I like “some rice, baby?”  No matter what food choice I made, the core of it was how I felt in the given moment.

OUTFITS TELL A STORY

Every pup’s outfit barked a story.  Whether a pup was wearing clothes from track practice or her sorority jacket; the new belt she wore to class or sweats she threw on after studying for hours the night before, your outfit was a statement to share who you were in any given moment.  Brunch is no different.  Use your outfit to make a statement and share your story.

FOOD BRINGS EVERYONE TOGETHER

Some of my best memories about The Café was eating with my BFFs.  We barked about everything under the sun and used our time in The Café to connect, share accomplishments, and even bark through whatever pup-dulting issues we were having.  Food has the power to bring us together…especially when brunch is involved.

INVITE YOUR BFFs

The ultimate betrayal in school was when you asked your crew “what time were you going to The Café?” and they responded “We already went.”  So, always invite your BFFs. Even if they can’t go, ask them anyway.  It’s no fun being left out.

The Café on Huffton’s campus is where Cynn, Ginger, Cayenne, and I would eat our meals together.  We barked about dreams and aspirations.  We whined about that one pup-fressor who never graded on the curve.  We’d even figure out a way to sit in an area where whatever pup we were crushing on at the time would ask us to save him a seat.

And, on Sundays we’d brunch.  Whether it was after church or after we woke up late from a night out, Sundays were all about brunch behavior.  As Matt Basile stated…

Breakfast is a meal, but brunch is a culture.

So, when my fellow Huffton graduates asked me to host a brunch for our class at Pupcake Sugar to celebrate homecoming, I jumped at the opportunity to honor my memories of my time in The Café.  “…And We Brunch” to celebrate how far we’ve come, the goals we’re bound to achieve, and every lesson The Café taught us.

And, you know me.  What would a brunch be without a signature pupcake to go along with it?  Check out these Banana French Toast Pupcakes.  Inspired by homecoming brunches happening everywhere, and all the pups who are reveling in their memories in The Café.

The best thing about brunch behavior, we can always put our own twist on it.  So, let’s dish about brunch behavior.
