5 Herbs & Spices to Add to Your Holiday Shopping List

Holiday Herbs and Spices

Have you started your holiday shopping yet?

I have.  All this barking about on the news about shortages and slower delivery times, I decided to start my holiday shopping early this year.  There’s no way that some shortage is going to mess up my pupcake holiday menu.

Last weekend, I spent hours mapping out my holiday menu, checking my Pupcake Sugar inventory, and listing all the ingredients I’ll need for the next several months.  The biggest need on my holiday list…spices.  So, today I took a trip to The Pup Flavor Lounge to purchase some spices to add to my inventory.

I absolutely love The Pup Flavor Lounge.  The aroma sends your nose floating the moment you enter the store.  I could spend hours roaming the shelves and checking out each of these spices.  Unfortunately, today I didn’t have that kind of time.  I had other holiday season shopping to get done.

If you haven’t guessed it, aroma and fragrance is one of my favorite experiences with baking pupcakes.  Every time I put a new batch in the oven, the scent from the spices and ingredients fills the room.  In the words of Christian Dior…

Make me a fragrance that smells like love.

And, what greater love is there than the fragrance of those pupcakes baking in the oven.  Honestly, who needs candles when the scented love from these Banana French Toast Pupcakes fills the room.  It’s a little something I like to call Pupcake Aroma Therapy.

And as I get ready for the holiday season, it’s one of the several things about baking pupcakes that I absolutely look forward to.  Here are some of my favorite herbs and spices to bake with that create an amazing Pupcake Aroma Therapy experience.

GINGER

Ginger’s spicy, fresh aroma is perfect for boosting concentration and focus.  It also reduces stress, which is great when you’re trying to balance the juggling everything on your “to-do” list for the holiday.

CINNAMON

Cinnamon has a sweet and spicy aroma.  The scent is a great mood booster and has been proven to alleviate sadness.  I don’t know about you.  However, cinnamon always sparks a little nostalgia for me.  Somehow the whiff of cinnamon baking in the oven always reminds me of the first time me and my BFFs decided to fix our own Friendsgiving.  That nostalgic feeling always makes the pupcakes come out better.

PEPPERMINT

Peppermint’s cool and minty aroma is always a holiday favorite.  The fragrance can boost your energy and open up your nasal passages.  Peppermint also enhances memory, which is helpful when trying to remember my pupcakes recipes.

CAROB

Carob has a sweet and sensual scent.  It has always been one of my favorites, but the smell always puts me in a good mood.  Carob’s aroma can create a sense of well-being, reduces depression symptoms, and can get rid of that tired feeling.

BASIL

Basil’s aroma is warm and spicy, yet herbal.  The scent can calm and relax your environment.  Basil can also reduce tension, which is especially helpful after standing on my paws all day baking.  I love baking pupcakes, but holiday baking at Pupcake Sugar is on a different level.  So, a scent that can release the tension is always welcomed.

Every baker has their favorite spices.  These spices always add a little extra love to the plate.  So, let’s dish.
