Imagine working day and night preparing for your first Pupcake Pop-up.

This event is going to be the first soft launch for your pup business.  Imagine spending weeks going through every detail of your Pupcake Pop-up with a fine-tooth comb.  And when I say everything, I mean everything.  From the pupcake recipes on the menu; to the location of the event; all the way down to the font on the place cards.

Now imagine the day of your Pupcake Pop-up and you dropping every last pupcake on the ground.  Oh yeah.  There also are no more ingredients to use and the closest grocery store is closing in 30 minutes. 

Not to mention that you’re only 2 hours away from serving a room full of hungry pups who’ve paid good money and are anxiously awaiting to be the first to sample your pupcakes.

Sounds like a nightmare, right?

Well…thank goodness it was.  For the weeks leading up to my first Pupcake Pop-up I had several nightmares that resulted in the downfall of all of my hard work and planning.  There were nightmares of me dropping pupcakes on the floor, my ovens not working and even the dream that no pups showed up.

Anything that you could think that would go wrong in an event like this, popped up in at least one nightmare during the lead up to my Pupcake Pop-up.

Ironically enough, these nightmares forced me to get more proactive about my planning.  They forced me to not only think about what could go wrong during my Pupcake Pop-up, but also what I should do to solve the problem.  As Benjamin Franklin simply stated…

By failing to prepare, you are planning to fail.

So, while I spent my time ironing out every detail of my Pupcake Pop-up, I spent equally enough time crafting what would happen if any major things went wrong.  For instance, I baked the pupcakes the night before instead of baking everything on the day of the event.  And, if the oven was not working for some odd reason, I had lined up another location where I could use to bake my pupcakes.

Contingency plans are important when you’re planning an event. Especially, a huge event for your business.  Sometimes things are completely out of your control.  However, those things that you can control, you definitely want to do so.

I’ve often found that when I have a contingency plan in place, I never need to use it.  It’s weird how that works.  However, it’s always better to not need something and have it, then to need it and not have a way of getting it.

Although these nightmares woke me up out of my sleep in a panic, it forced me to be strategic about planning my Pupcake Pop-up.  It forced me to map out the behind the scenes details that are often missed, but lead to the success of event.  And, ironically, I didn’t even need to use any of the contingency plans I had put in place.  My Pupcake Pop-up ran smoothly.

  • 6 – 8 Mini Pupcakes

Ingredients

Sugar Baby Pupcakes

  • 1/2 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1/3 Cup Diced Sugar Baby Watermelon
  • 1 Tablespoon Pure Honey
  • 1 Egg

Honey Glazed Icing (Optional)

  • 1/4 Cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Pure Honey

Instructions

For Sugar Baby Pupcakes

  • 1Preheat oven to 350° F. Line 6 – 8 1.75-inch mini-muffin pan with paper bake cups and set aside.
  • 2In small bowl mix together, flour and baking powder. Set aside.
  • 3In a large mixing bowl add olive oil, sugar baby watermelon, honey and egg. Beat on medium speed about 2 minutes or until combined.
  • 4Add dry ingredients into the mixture and blend for approximately 2 minutes until well mixed.
  • 5Add juice from the watermelon 1 tablespoon at a time in order until you get the consistency of cake batter.
  • 6Fill each cupcake liner with 1 tablespoon of pupcake mix.
  • 7Bake pupcakes for 12 minutes. Pupcakes are done when you can stick a toothpick into the cake and it comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
  • 8Spread or pipe peanut butter cream frosting onto the pupcakes. (optional)
  • 9Place ¼ piece of watermelon on top of each pupcake for garnish (optional)

For Honey Glazed Icing (Optional)

  • 1In small mixing bowl beat yogurt and honey together on medium speed.
  • 2Pipe, drizzle, or spread honey glazed icing onto the pupcakes.
  • 3Place ¼ piece of watermelon on top of each pupcake for garnish (optional)
