Sugar Learns Something New & Rewards Herself With These Broccoli Apple Pupcakes

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe for Broccoli Apple Oatmeal Pupcakes

I’ll never forget the day I learned how to make scented advertisements.

I barked for joy about it all day long.  I made it a point to tell every pup I knew.  Now, that may seem like a small feat to some, but in my world this is huge.  It’s so huge that once I figured it out, I even had to bark my excitement to a few of my friends.

You see, dogs don’t read actual words on a page.  So, flyers, postcards and all the other written advertisements that work for humans, aren’t going to work for pups.

And, we do use Pup-stagram to look at pictures. However, none of the pictures use captions.  So, unless your pup business is well established, no pup is going to know where to find you.

All real marketing and advertising for pups is done through word of bark or scent.

So, in order to advertise that Pupcake Sugar was finally opened for business, I had to figure out how to share that information to the rest of the pup world.  I also had to figure out a way to make sure that my advertisements would stand out from all the other new advertisements out there.

My solution, was to develop a scented advertisement that would capture the noses of the pups close by and entice them to come visit Pupcake Sugar.  There was only one problem.

I’d never created a scented advertisement before.

Sure, I’ve seen it done.  While I was working at BarkScent Magazine, I would develop the concept for an advertisement.  I was in marketing, so it was a part of the job.  However, the communications team would put these scented advertisements together all the time.

Now I was a solo pup business owner, and resources to pay someone to do a small project like this weren’t available.  So, I had to put my paws into action and figure out how to do it myself.  And, in the words of Virginia Satir…

We can learn something new anytime we believe we can.

I worked for hours trying to figure out the pup mechanics on how to put these scented advertisements together.   Honestly, there were times I wanted to “throw the whole project away.”  But, a little voice inside my head kept barking to me to keep going.

So, when I finally figured it out, I couldn’t help but bark for joy.  “Figuring it out” is a way of life in pup business ownership.  Every day, there’s something new to learn.  While trying to learn may get a bit frustrating, it makes you that much more knowledgeable about your business.

And, once you get to the point when you can hire people for projects for your pup business venture, you’ll be able to tell them exactly what you’re looking for.  I guess it’s true what they say “through struggle comes success.”

That’s why I celebrate all of the wins, even those that might seem small for someone else.  Because every win represents a new skill I’ve learned, a struggle I’ve overcome and a new boss move I’ve made in pup business ownership.

These Broccoli Apple Oatmeal Muffin Pupcakes are dedicated to learning something new and celebrating it as a win for your pup business.

And of course, we believe that every pupcake has a love story.  So, while your favorite pup is PUPPY LOVIN’ on these pupcakes, we’d love to hear from you.
