It finally happened. After almost a year of planning and praying; staying up late and working into the wee hours of the morning while my human thinks I’m sleeping; juggling between my job and my pup business plan…
Pupcake Sugar is finally opened for business.
I’m so excited that I’m barking for joy right now. But, I have to be honest. In all my excitement, there were times when I started to question whether I’d ever get to this point.
I always knew I wanted to be a pup business owner. I just had a tough time figuring out exactly what I wanted to do. So, I spent years trying to figure out what type of pup business I wanted to start. However, as I got older and wiser I still had no ideas and was beginning to think that my dreams of pup business ownership would never come true.
What’s even worse? I fell into the trap that most millennial pups do. I started comparing myself to pups seemingly “living their best lives” on Pup-stagram. These pups seemed to have everything so figured out. And, it started to make me feel that I was so far behind the curve, that I quit Pup-stagram altogether.
I stopped posting, stopped scrolling and completely removed myself from the idea of pup social media. Ironically, this mini break gave me the time to take a break and find joy in all the things I didn’t when I was scrolling through my phone.
The more time I spent away from my phone, the more I discovered things that I like to do. Honestly, I not only learned that I love to bake pupcakes, but I’m actually pretty good at it. Who knew?
And then…boom. The idea of baking pupcakes became the core of my pup business venture. How ironic. The minute I stopped comparing myself to the other pups on Pup-stagram, I came up with the idea for Pupcake Sugar. In the words of Michelle Parsons…
Don’t compare yourself to others…that’s a battle you can never win.
Now, I’m not advocating that pups quit social media altogether. It’s the way the pup world communicates. And, it has some major benefits. I mean…it’s been a great tool in advertising my pup business. Especially, when my human is around and word of “bark” advertising isn’t an option.
However, the true beauty in pup business ownership is all of those amazing things that happen behind the scenes when no one is watching. There are the moments when you learn the most, can make the biggest mistakes and discover your passions without anyone watching you.
Taking a break from pup social media allowed me to do that. It gave me the chance to stop comparing myself to what every other pup was doing and just do me.
Especially, with pup ownership. It was the first time in my life where I didn’t have an “end game.” In puppy school, there’s graduation. At Scent Magazine, there was a bonus or promotion. But in pup ownership, all you have is trust in your vision with the road map that you build on your own. And sometimes, you don’t even know if you’re using the right map.
So, why would I add the extra stress of comparing my vision to what everyone else is doing on Pup-stagram? That’s why a break from it was just what I needed. No comparison to my followers versus someone else’s. No wishing for likes to a post. Just me figuring it out on my own.
The moment I started comparing myself to the pup I was yesterday, was the moment I started winning every game played. And honestly, if it wasn’t for this break from pup social media, Pupcake Sugar might have never existed. So, a small break from watching pup fashionistas bark about their favorite collars for summer worked out to my benefit.
These Carob Chip Pupcakes are dedicated to working on your passion when no one is watching.
And of course, we believe that every pupcake has a love story. So, while your favorite pup is PUPPY LOVIN’ on these pupcakes, we’d love to hear from you.
