I’ve achieved a lot of my dreams and goals this year.
First, and foremost, I finally figured out my path to pup business ownership and started Pupcake Sugar. I’ve spoken on several panels and served as guest speaker at Puppy Kindergarten. I’ve even developed and I’m in the process of launching Pupcake Hustle.
I still get a little excited when I look back to see how far I’ve come. I get even more excited when I think about where this pup can go. I also can’t believe that a new year is only two months away. This year sure did move fast.
This is actually the time of year when I start mapping out my dreams and goals I want to achieve in the new year.
I know. I know. It seems a bit early. However, in my mind, I’m right on schedule. A few years ago, I decided that I would start mapping out my goals for the new year several months before the new year arrived. It started while working for BarkScent and has stayed with me.
Every year around this time, BarkScent’s marketing team would get together and bark about all the goals we want to achieve in the coming year. We’d talk about our individual pup goals as it related to our projects and how those projects rolled up to the bigger picture of the entire marketing team.
We’d also discuss how the marketing team’s goals matched the big picture vision for BarkScent. This way every pup at BarkScent would be able to start the new year knowing exactly what they should be working on.
Ironically, I’d also watched how my co-pups and I would automatically start organizing our time, scheduling meetings and hosting strategy sessions to determine how we could get started with our goals before the new year started. And, when those winter blues slowly started to creep in and pups started going on holiday vacation, we were already ahead of ourselves. We didn’t have to worry about work dragging on and on.
I thought why not use the same strategy for myself for both Pupcake Sugar and my personal goals. And, during the holiday season it’s hard to ignore all those fun pup parties, end-of-the-year deadlines and family functions. So, there isn’t much room for me to thoughtfully map out my goals. In the words of Venus Williams…
I don’t focus on what I’m up against. I focus on my goals and I ignore the rest.
So, here I sit. I’m mapping out my goals as we speak. I’m thinking of ways I can become stronger in my pup business and pup life. I’m focused on where I’d like to spend more time. And, most importantly I’m mapping out how I can continue to take care of myself physically, mentally and emotionally.
That takes a lot of thought. It’s easy to set a goal, but it’s hard to think about how that goal will impact ourselves as a whole, our families, pup friends and even our community.
So, I choose this time to think long and hard about all of those things. It gives me a chance to be a lot more reflective, patient with myself and kind to the pup I have become as well as the pup I’m becoming. In my mind, it sure beats coming up with a New Year’s Resolution that I’ll break within the first week.
And, as I sit here and map out my own pup goals, I encourage every pup (and human) to do the same. Not at the end of the year, but right now. It’ll help you go into the new year ready to walk in your own paw prints and take the pup world by storm.
These Banana Carob Chip Pupcakes With Carob Peanut Butter Cream Frosting are dedicated to walking into the new year and leaving a mark with your own paw prints.
And of course, we believe that every pupcake has a love story. So, while your favorite pup is PUPPY LOVIN’ on these pupcakes, we’d love to hear from you.
What’s your strategy to map out your goals? Is it your birthday around the new year, etc.? How has this strategy worked for you?
