Sometimes the pupcake recipe doesn’t turn out like the picture.
No matter what you do or how hard you try. However, that’s the beauty of baking. Every time you decide to try one, you can make that pupcake your own, sprinkle your own Sugar Mama magic and create your own secret sauce. So, I always keep that in mind whenever I try a new pupcake recipe.
I had the two things I needed to turn SWEET POTATO SEASON from a “crazy idea” to a reality.
- A mountain of sweet potatoes I bought from Wagmans Market.
- A master plan to turn these sweet potatoes into a night pups will remember, forever.
For all my Sugar Mamas who missed it, Sweet Potato Season is a soiree. An extravaganza. The chance to enjoy a few pupcakes, get dressed up and celebrate the pups you love. This “crazy idea” of mine was born from that unexpected I-20 traffic jam and the sign I’d been looking for.
Before the fashion, glamour and those flashing lights on the red carpet, the first step in my plan was to create a menu that makes all these sweet potato pupcakes centerstage. These pupcakes weren’t just dog food on a plate, they’re the barking main attraction. More importantly, every last pupcake would have sweet potatoes as the main ingredient.
I spent three days and nights researching sweet potato recipes, spices and display cases. If you only knew how many hours I spent lying in my bed pawing through my phone searching Moogle, watching YapTube videos and saving pics to my Pup-interest boards. I was determined make Sweet Potato Season work.
And, all those late nights and early mornings doing researched paid off. I found the perfect recipe to try out and start baking.
The next day I put my first batch of sweet potato pupcakes in the oven. The recipe seemed easy enough and I followed the recipe exactly like the YapTube video. And low and behold, I pulled them out of the oven and they were slightly burnt. I guess I baked them a bit too long. So, I decided to try again. And, again. And, one more time because “something wasn’t right.”
After the fourth time, I started to feel defeated. I was two steps from giving up on this Sweet Potato Season “crazy idea” altogether. Until, I had this epiphany.
Sweet Potato Season is my vision. Who says that my pupcakes needed to look like anyone else’s? More importantly, who says that my recipe had to match what every other pup does? In the words of Beyoncé…
I’ll make my best art and put out.
So, I decided to put my own twist on all those other sweet potato pupcakes I found and create pupcakes that no pup has seen before. These pupcakes are my art and Sweet Potato Season is my canvas. I’m excited to share my art with the world. I’d also love to hear from you.
Was there ever a time when you switched up the recipe and made it your own? How did that make you feel?
When you’re planning a big extravaganza, there are a lot of steps a few learning curves along the way. So, let’s dish about those learning curves, shall we? A few of my biggest Sweet Potato Season lessons are waiting in your inbox.
