Impromptu moments often make the best memories, and sometimes lead to a pupcake challenge.
Like the time me and the squad decided to host a last-minute movie night. There were no plans. Just a few pups that didn’t feel like going out in the cold weather. Paws up to any pups that’ve ever felt the same.
And, of course, you always need a few snacks for a movie night. Watching movies is cool, but a few snacks will make the night a lot better.
So, Ginger and I volunteered to run to Tailget to get some. As we walk up and down the aisle, Ginger thought it would be howl-arious to pupcake challenge me to make a new pupcake flavor out of the snacks we had in our carts. Well, challenge accepted. In the words of Gina Carey…
A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink.
I’m all for a pupcake challenge that forces me to try something new. However, there still needs to be a plan. It’s not like I had a ton of time to think through what I was going to bake. Plus, Ginger and I were still standing in line at the store. I mean, this was a last-minute grocery run.
Luckily, I’m a boss at impromptu runs. So, any pup out there to get in on the pupcake challenge, here are a few ways to handle your next grocery store run.
MAKE A LIST
Making a list keeps you focused on your plan. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into Tailget to buy one thing and ended up with five bags. And (don’t judge me), forgot what I even went in the store for. You usually don’t have a lot of time with a pupcake challenge. So, you want to stick to your list to save time (and money).
LOOK FOR SEASONAL FRUITS & VEGETABLES
Seasonal fruits and vegetables are always great for a pupcake challenge because the grocery store will usually have them on the shelves. Plus, they’re usually fresher, which will enhance the flavor of the pupcakes you’re baking.
CHECK FOR COUPONS
Pupcake Challenges are fun, but you don’t want to break the bank to purchase what you need. So, check out the weekend circulars or google for coupons and other deals. Plus, checking for coupons may give you an idea or two for the pupcake challenge you’re getting ready to accept.
DON’T SHOP WHILE HUNGRY (OR HANGRY)
Shopping while you’re hungry may lead you to buy more items that you planned on. Especially, if they’ve got samples for you to try. How many times have you ended up buying those chicken pup pie bites because you’re handed a few samples while you were shopping and hungry at the same time? Even though they probably weren’t’ on your list.
GO WHERE YOU KNOW THE AISLES
There’s usually not enough time to complete a pupcake challenge. So, if you have to shop for ingredients, you want to get in and out of the store. So, pick a store where you know the layout. This way you can get exactly what you need from each aisle without spending a lot of time searching for it. This method will save you a little time.
I’d love to hear from you.
