“Happy Dog Mom’s Day Mama! This pupcakery is here because of you.”
30 Minutes Until Brunch
Thirty minutes. “I got 30 minutes until they get here. Mocha called to let me know that she, Vanilla, and Mom were on their way,” she barked to Cynn. Sugar’s Dog Mom’s Day Brunch was supposed to start soon and she wasn’t ready. She had one last batch of pupcakes in the oven and change her clothes.
“And I left my second box of centerpieces at home,” Sugar barked. Sugar pulled out her phone and started dialing. “Let me see if I can catch Basil before he leaves the house so he can bring them.”
Luckily, Cynn decided to get to the pupcakery early. She stood there for a few seconds and listened to Sugar vent about how she should’ve started getting ready earlier. “Girl!” Cynn barked. “Calm down. Where can I help?”
The Dance Break That Cost Sugar 20 Minutes
This Dog Mom’s Day Brunch was Sugar’s first event and soft launch for her pupcakery. Funny. A few weeks ago, Sugar was wondering if she should still even have this brunch. When Sugar moved in, this pupcakery looked like it was in no condition to hose anything. Especially, a surprise brunch for Sugar’s mom.
Sugar started baking the night before her brunch. She was making good progress too. Until she took a slight dance break when her favorite song started playing on her playlist. Sugar’s mama taught her, “Baking while listening to music makes the pupcakes taste better.”
Sugar’s mama also taught her “don’t sit down until the work is done.” Sugar wished she’d listened too. She sat down after that quick dance break and fell asleep for 20 minutes her booth. When she came to, she realized that she needed to head home and finish up her last batch of pupcakes in the morning.
Thank You, Traffic
Before Sugar even got out her answer, Cynn walked over to the counter, grabbed the box of centerpieces Sugar remembered to bring, and started setting them up on the tables. Once Sugar got Basil on the phone, she was able to finally calm down. She went to the back to check on her last batch of pupcakes. “They should be cool enough to put the icing on by now,” Sugar barked.
A few moments later, Basil and Cane walked in with the boxes of centerpieces Sugar left home. Sugar was getting ready to put her pupcakes out on display when her sister Mocha called. “Shug!” Mocha barked. “We’re running a little late. Some dog barking out of the window caused the car to hit the hydrant. No one was hurt, but traffic’s backed up.”
Dog Mom’s Day Surprise
Thanks to the unexpected traffic jam, Sugar was able to put her final pupcakes on the display, finish setting up the centerpieces, and change into her outfit.
“Surprise!” All the dogs howled when her mom and sisters walked in.
Sugar’s mom was completely shocked. “I knew you were taking me to eat,” Sugar’s mom said. “But I had no idea y’all were renting out the place.” Sugar’s mom was so caught off guard she didn’t even realize it was Sugar’s pupcakery until she said, “Mom look at the window.”
We all know how dog moms are. It doesn’t take much for them to start whimpering when their “little one” does something great. Because no matter how old Sugar gets, she and her siblings will always be their mama’s babies.
Sugar’s mom even shed a few tears as she posed with Sugar and her siblings for a picture in her pupcakery. “Happy Dog Mom’s Day Mama!” Sugar barked. “This pupcakery is here because of you.”
