Sugar Learns To Block Out Distractions With These Apple Banana Pupcakes

Apple Banana Pupcakes With Peanut Butter Cream Frosting homemade dog treat recipe

I’ve learned early on in my pup business ownership journey that opportunity costs can really distract you from your goals.  We’re all familiar with opportunity costs in one way or the other.  It’s what a pup sacrifices when she chooses one option over the another.

Or in my case, it can become a distraction as I work towards my goal.

Now, we’ve all given in to a few distractions in our lifetime.  Many of them resulted in memorable stories that we can’t help but tell to any pup that’ll listen.  Like the time you chose “Pup Girls’ Night Out” over completing all those chores on your to do list.  Or, that time you barked all night long to that pup you’re crushing on instead of getting that extra sleep you needed.

And, let’s not forget about the time you put off going after your dream career because “pup-dulting got in the way.”  Honestly, sometimes distractions show up in ways we don’t even realize.  Especially, as a pup business owner.

When I started Pupcake Sugar, I decided that I needed a website to showcase my business.  Like many budding pup-trepreneurs, I was on a tight budget.  So, instead of paying someone to develop and design my website, I decided to do it myself.

There’s only one problem.  I have no experience in website design.

I spent weeks, researching platforms, watching website design tutorials on PupTube and learning how to use design software.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I learned a lot that I’m sure will benefit me in the long run.  It was definitely bootstrapping at its finest.  However, after weeks of working on my website, I became extremely frustrated.

My website was finished, however everything looked amateurish and outdated.  And, to a pup perfectionist like me that was not going to be sufficient.  I was so annoyed that I started contemplating giving up on my pup business idea altogether.

Then I realized that this website was nothing more than a distraction to my goal.  Instead of baking pupcakes, I was trying to code.  Instead of researching places to sell my pupcakes, I was researching website platforms.  And, instead of focusing on building a brand, I was focused on the mechanics of building a website.

This website was a small piece of a bigger vision of Pupcake Sugar.  And, as the saying goes…

You can’t do big things, if you’re distracted by small things.

So, instead of obsessing over creating a website, I decided to just purchase a template and have it installed.  This way, I could have a professional looking website and spend more time building my pup business brand.  And, once I got a little more establish, I could afford to get a custom website design.

This experience taught me that mental distractions, can also make you lose sight of your pup goals if you’re not careful.  I mean, the frustration of trying to build this website almost made me give up on my business idea altogether.  So, moving forward I decided to spend time on the big picture activities and less time on those small distractions.

It may cost a little extra money, but the time it gave me to build my business was completely worth it.

These Apple Banana Pupcakes With Peanut Butter Cream Frosting are dedicated to getting rid of those little distractions that are holding you back from your big goals.

And of course, we believe that every pupcake has a love story.  So, while your favorite pup is PUPPY LOVIN’ on these pupcakes, we’d love to hear from you.

  • I really enjoy reading sugars puptales. And also seeing sugars instagram posts. I’ve learned that even though I have many things I like to do as a creative, I have to focus on one at a time in order to give it my all and best effort. My own creativity becomes my distraction! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    • I feel you on that one. I think it’s in every creative’s DNA to have a million ideas rolling around in our brains. I’ve also had to learn to focus on one thing at a time (which is still hard sometimes.). Ironically, I feel like I bring more of my creative ideas to life when I just focus on one at a time. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing.
