“We’ll work it out.”
HERE’S WHAT I SHOULDN’T HAVE DONE
Here’s something they forgot to teach me about pupcakepreneurship. Expect the unexpected. So, when my BFF, Ginger, came up with the idea to start an investment club, I was all for it. So were Cayenne, Cynnamon, Basil, and his best friend, Poppy. Plus, it gives us an excuse to hang out.
A few weeks ago, it was my night to host the club meeting. Ginger works at one of the business offices a few blocks away from Pupcake Sugar. So, she met me at my pupcakery so we could ride together.
As always, Ginger was on time. But I still had a few ingredients to put away in the kitchen, including a huge container of four.
So, here’s what I shouldn’t have barking did before getting ready to leave for our investment club meeting. Try to lift a big container of flour over my head with my paws without using a step ladder. Because…YIPE!
TAKING A WOBBLY HOP
Before I knew it, I was sitting on my kitchen floor covered in flour. I saw Ginger peek her head from the door as I tried to pick myself up. “What happened?” Ginger barked as she reached down to help me.
I started to walk over to the chair next to the counter, but my paw was throbbing so much I thought it was making beats. So, my slow walk to the chair turned into a wobbly hop.
“You should probably get someone to look at your paw.” Ginger barked. But honestly, I was too focused on the flour all over my kitchen floor. I kept thinking, “What a waste of flour. I could’ve made some good pupcakes with that.”
WE’LL WORK IT OUT
“Two weeks.” The doctor barked. Turns out I fell harder than I thought and sprained my paw. So, the doctor made it clear that I had to stay off my paw for two weeks.
I know. I needed to give my paw a chance to heal. Usually, I’m a big woofing advocate for resting and taking the time to heal. But staying off my paw meant no standing. No lifting. And, more importantly, no baking.
I couldn’t close my pupcakery that long. Pupcake Sugar hadn’t been open that long. Plus, it was just beginning to build momentum.
But thank goodness for Basil. He just grabbed my paw on the car ride home from the doctor. “We’ll work it out.” He barked.
I LOVE MY DOGS
Can I just say I love my dogs. We stick together no matter what. And we always come through for each other in a clutch.
That night. The investment club group chat was buzzing. Basil, Ginger, Cynnamon, Cayenne, and Poppy all volunteered to help me run Pupcake Sugar for two weeks so my paw could heal. They took turns and worked in shifts. My big sister, Vanilla, even volunteered to bake. Yes. Mama taught her how to bake too.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Letting go and letting my dogs help wasn’t easy. Especially, since Vanilla messed up the first batch of Blueberry Oatmeal Muffin Pupcakes. And Cayenne had a real time trying to get the flavors on the menu straight. But Vanilla reminded me, “Shug…you gotta let that bark it, I’ll do it attitude go. It’ll work out.”
And let it go, I did. Ok. Sort of. I took the two weeks and just let my paw heal. Ok. Ok. I did facetime everybody several times to check in on everything. But what do you expect. Pupcake Sugar is my career dream come true.
However, it still warms my heart to know that my dogs love me this much.
