“It’s not always fun being responsible.”
SUGAR SUBMITS PAYMENT
And to think, it was only six months ago I wondered how the bark am I going to pay this off? In fact, it took me a few days and a new pupcake recipe before I even looked at the credit card bill. But there I was, several months later getting ready to pay off my pupcakery oven repair.
I could feel the relief as my paw hit “submit payment” on my Bark of America app. Paying off this bill was no joke. I thought I was good with budgeting. However, opening Pupcake Sugar stretched my budgeting practice to a whole other level.
BEING RESPONSIBLE
I rearranged my entire budget to pay off the oven repairs. I paid a little extra on the bill each month on top of my regular expenses. It took a lot more discipline than I thought I had. I still don’t know how I did it.
Ok. Yes, I do. My plans for an outside summer turned into a low-key summer night in. It’s not always fun being responsible. However, I had a vision, and it was bigger than a few shenanigans. In fact, one of the reasons I chose not to go to the Biscotti concert was because I used the money I’d paid for the ticket to pay down my repairs.
But at least I got a business opportunity to help. I promised myself that I would use any extra money I earned to pay down my debt. So, the garden party gave me a chance to blow a few bubbles and help pay off the oven repair.
When I finally made my last payment, I felt like a weight was lifted. Honestly, there were some months when I wasn’t sure that I was going to be able to make the payment. So, I was ready to celebrate.
OH SHHH…UGAR FUND
You know how we dogs are. We’ll make up any excuse to celebrate. And I’ll make any excuse to add some pupcakes to the barking equation. So, I invited my dogs, Basil, Ginger, Cynnamon, Poppy, and Cayenne to my pupcakery to celebrate with me.
I admit. Even though having that bill was inconvenient, it taught me that investing in myself isn’t always easy and can get a little expensive sometimes. However, it always works out in the long-term.
Since I was already used to paying the money, Ginger encouraged me to take the money I was used to paying and put it in an account each month. “I mean, you’re already used to paying that amount.” Ginger barked. “You can at least start an ‘Ohhh Shhh-ugar’ account, so you’ll have some funds in case of an emergency.”
ADDING PUPCAKES TO THE MENU
I thought about it for a moment. I really wasn’t in the mood to discuss finances at the celebration. But Ginger is our resident financial advisor. She never leaves home without some financial advice. We love her for it. But at the time, I only wanted to live in a moment.
However, Ginger was right. Before she started Pupcake Sugar, I probably would’ve ignored Ginger’s advice. Not that it wasn’t good. But that cute bag I saw in Pupstrom had my name written all over it.
But I’m a pupcakepreneur now. And this bet that she made on myself is more important than that bag. So, the next day I opened my own “Ohhh Shhh-ugar” account with the goal to get it to the total amount I spent on the oven repairs. I figured, that should at least cover me if my oven breaks down again.
Plus, I decided to add the Peanut Butter Cup Pupcakes I served at the celebration to my pupcakery menu. Not just because the pupcakes are good, but because they are a symbol of how my discipline turned an inconvenience into an investment in myself.
