Let the Gotcha Day Shenanigans Begin

Gotcha Day Shenanigans

“I should’ve started packing earlier.” Sugar barked to Basil as they hopped into the car.  Sugar was up all night packing for her Gotcha Day trip with her BFFs.  In fact, she slightly overslept.

Luckily, the airport was only 20 minutes away.  So, there’d be plenty of time for her to meet up with her BFFs at the departure area and walk to the gate.

These Gotcha Day trips are an annual tradition for Sugar and her BFFs, Cynnamon, Ginger, and Cayenne.  They’ve been doing these trips since Puppy Kindergarten to celebrate the day they met.  This year, they’re going hiking and spending a few days at the spa.

Although Sugar had trouble waking up, the excitement for the trip made her forget about the hours of sleep she didn’t get.  So, she was wide awake and ready to spend the whole ride to the airport barking to Basil and looking out the window until…

“Wait.”  Sugar barked.  “Is that traffic?”

Balancing the Budget

Pupcake Sugar has been Sugar’s focus for the last several months.  Between going to closing, moving in, establishing a menu, and getting the pupcakery ready for the grand opening, she’s been super busy.  Not to mention the financial balancing act she’s had to do to make her dream work.

“If I hadn’t paid my money, I’d be sitting this Gotcha Day trip out.”  Sugar barked to Cynnamon on the phone.  “Especially with the oven breaking down.”  But the truth is, Sugar needed this trip as a reset before her grand opening.

So, she decided to go.  Especially, since Sugar hasn’t had a chance to spend time with her BFFs since last year’s Gotcha Day Sniffari trip.

“Ok, Cynn.”  Sugar barked.  “Let me finish packing.  I’ll meet y’all at the airport in the morning.”

Late Night Gotcha Day Packing

Sugar planned to start packing earlier but got caught up reconciling her invoices for her pupcakery.  She wanted to finish before she left for her trip.

So, Sugar didn’t start packing until 10:00 PM that night.  Which wouldn’t be such a big deal if she didn’t have to wash those clothes she “thought were clean” before she put them in her bag.

Sugar was up all night and only got 2 hours of sleep.  When she finally did fall asleep, Sugar slept so hard that she didn’t even hear her alarm.  If Basil didn’t wake her up, she probably would’ve overslept and missed her flight.

But at least she remembered to pack her blanket and travel pillow.  “I’ll get a good sleep with this on the plane.”  Sugar barked to Basil in the car.

Made it to the Airport

“Yeah.  That’s traffic.”  Basil barked.  “Looks like it’s backed up for miles.”

“Are you kidding me?” Sugar barked.  “I’ve gotta get to the airport in 10 minutes.”  For the first time, Sugar’s excitement turned into slight panic.  All she kept thinking was that she was going to miss her flight.

“Relax.” Basil woofed.  “We’ll just take the back way.”  Basil eased the car off the highway exit onto the Dish Street.  Basil found this route by accident one day when he stopped at a rest stop one day to grab a snack.

Sugar felt a little more relieved, but she still was nervous when she saw the ETA on the GPS increase by 5 minutes.  “What if the other cars had the same idea?” Sugar barked to Basil.  “Shug.” Basil barked.  “Will you let me drive this car please.”

Sugar stayed silent for the rest of the ride and just stared out the window.  After a few quick turns and red lights, they made it to the airport.  And…on time.  “See.”  Basil woofed. “I gotcha.”  “Thanks Bay.” Sugar said to Basil as they both hopped out of the car to get her bag.  She hugged him and walked into the airport.

As she walked in, Sugar saw her BFFs checking in at the ticket kiosk.  She let out a sigh of relief that she made it.  “Y’all!” Sugar barked.  “Let the Gotcha Day shenanigans begin!”
